I’m Dr. Fritz Trybus, a veterinarian with nearly 20 years of experience providing medical and surgical care for dogs and cats throughout McHenry County, Illinois. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of practicing at Animal Hospital of Woodstock in Woodstock, Illinois, Companion Animal Specialty & Emergency (CASE) Hospital in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and I currently practice at Cary Grove Animal Hospital in Cary, Illinois.

My professional focus is advanced surgical care and dentistry for dogs and cats. I enjoy caring for pets with challenging medical and surgical conditions and helping them return to comfortable, active lives. Throughout my career, I have performed thousands of surgical and dental procedures, helping pets recover from everything from routine conditions to complex orthopedic, soft tissue, and oral diseases.

One of the most rewarding parts of veterinary medicine is seeing a pet regain comfort, mobility, and quality of life after successful treatment. Watching a patient return to running, playing, and enjoying everyday life again is what continues to make this profession so fulfilling.

Dog ACL (CCL) Surgery & TPLO

A torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), often referred to as an ACL injury, is one of the most common orthopedic conditions affecting dogs. Restoring comfort, stability, and mobility after these injuries has become one of the primary focuses of my practice.  I have been performing dog knee surgeries for nearly 20 years and complete several every week.  My goal is to provide a local, affordable option for pet owner's who have dogs with a cruciate ligament tear, and provide excellent results.    

For medium and large breed dogs, Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is widely considered the gold standard surgical treatment because it provides excellent long-term function and allows most dogs to return to a comfortable, active lifestyle. I routinely perform TPLO surgery for dogs typically weighing 40 to 140 pounds.  Costs are estimated at $5,000 for the surgical package (including follow up visits), and may increase for dogs over 90 pounds.  Contact my practice for more pricing information.  

For many smaller dogs, I also offer extracapsular (lateral suture) stabilization, allowing treatment to be tailored to each patient’s size, activity level, and individual needs.  These surgeries cost less than a TPLO and estimated at $3,300 for the surgical package.  Again, contact my practice directly for more pricing information.  Whether your dog is an energetic young athlete or an older companion, I take the time to discuss all appropriate treatment options so owners can make informed decisions that fit both their pet’s needs and their goals.

Dog & Cat Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Dentistry and oral surgery are another important focus of my practice. Good oral health plays a vital role in a pet’s overall comfort, health, and quality of life.

From diagnosing and treating painful dental disease to performing advanced tooth extractions and oral surgery, my goal is to relieve pain, restore comfort, and improve quality of life while helping owners understand the importance of lifelong dental health.

In addition to routine and advanced dentistry, I perform oral surgical procedures, including extractions and removal of oral tumors.

I work closely with owners to develop treatment plans that are thoughtful, individualized, and focused on achieving the best possible outcome. I enjoy solving challenging medical and surgical problems while providing advanced veterinary care that is both exceptional and affordable, allowing more pets to receive the treatment they need close to home.

Clear communication is just as important as quality medicine. I believe clients should feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout every stage of their pet’s care. Whether discussing treatment options, performing a complex surgery, or helping a pet owner navigate an important medical decision, my goal is to provide the same level of care, honesty, and compassion that I would want for my own animals.

Beyond the Animal Hospital

Outside of veterinary medicine, I live on a horse farm in rural McHenry County where I enjoy breeding, training, and showing American Quarter Horses and Paint Horses. I’m a lifelong animal enthusiast, and my farm is home to Australian Shepherds, cats, goats, and, of course, plenty of horses.

Caring for animals has always been more than a profession—it’s a lifelong passion. Whether I’m caring for a client’s beloved pet or spending time with my own animals at home, I feel incredibly fortunate to do what I love every day.
